Life Issue Groups

CareerTransition Ministry

Highland has an e-mail ministry that attempts to link up potential employeers with Highland attenders who are job seeking or looking to change careers. Please contact the church at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you are interested in being added to the contact list.

In addition, Marlowe C. Embree has volunteered his expertise as a career consultant to help take Highland's career transition ministry to the next level. An opportunity for those who are in career transition (or thinking about career transition issues) is now available, without cost.

Marlowe has started a blog on these issues that can be found at www.careernonlinearity.blogspot.com. This blog features a wide range of articles related to the "how to" of career transition, including personality type issues, transition strategies, managing obstacles, managing discouragement, generational issues in the job search process, making use of Web 2.0 tools in the job search, links between self-employment and conventional employment, interviewing issues, the role of faith in the job search, and more. Because this is a blog, anyone is allowed to post questions to the site. Marlowe may not be able to answer all of these for free, but has committed to making this an interactive site for those in transition (especially those at Highland).

Christ Centered Recovery Program

A program called Celebrate Recovery meets Tuesday nights at the Wausau Campusgriefat 7:00 p.m. for people who have hurts, habits and hang-ups. This program is not only for people who have alcohol addictions, but for those who have problems with such issues as anger, pornography, eating disorders, gambling, drugs and the like. You can visit their website at www.wausaucelebraterecovery.org or if you are interested, call Pastor Dave Mahler at 715-842-5683 and leave your name and phone number and you will be contacted.

Divorce Care & DivorceCare for Kids - This program is not currently active but if you are interested please let one of the people listed below know as a group will form based on interest.

Most people will tell you that separation and divorce are the most painful and stressful experiences they’ve ever faced. It’s a confusing time when you feel isolated and have lots of questions about issues you’ve never faced before. DivorceCare and DivorceCare for Kids meets to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each adult DivorceCare session has two distinct elements:

A Seminar with Experts - During the first 30–40 minutes of the meeting, DivorceCare watches a video seminar featuring top experts on divorce and recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an interesting-to-watch television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life case studies and on-location video.
A Support Group with Focus - After viewing the video, DivorceCare group participants spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in the lives of group members.

DivorceCare for Kids (DC4K), is a program for children (ages 5-12) of families experiencing divorce and separation.

DC4K features fun games and activities along with DVD dramas about real-life situations of children in divorce and points children to the Bible and Jesus Christ as their source of healing.

Topics include learning about what is happening to my family; facing my anger; how to deal with my sadness; who's to blame; dealing with loneliness; talking to my parents; and moving on, growing up and growing closer to God.

Contact Ralph and Sarah Maas at 715-370-2874 or Pastor Dan MacDonald at 715-842-5683 if you have questions.
