Highland is a member of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA), a denomination of some 1,200 churches across the United States of America, whose heritage goes back to the congregational movement in Scandinavia in the 1800's. It is called "Evangelical" because of its clear gospel message and its commitment to the authority of Scripture, and it's called "Free" to denote the autonomy of each local church.
