Helping people take the next step

Philosophy of Worship

Music and worship are central to the Christian faith. They are modes in which we praise God as well as communicate His truth to His people. We play and sing for an audience of One, and invite others to join us in worshiping Him.
We want to create an atmosphere in which people can come into the presence of God and worship Him with dynamic music. Our worship teams lead the congregation in joyful adoration through a variety of songs of praise.
There are many varied worship styles found among churches with like commitment to Christ. Here at Highland we have chosen to worship God in a contemporary style, using mostly newer praise music while still blending in time-honored hymns and spiritual songs. Each of our three Sunday Worship Services offers some variation from "slightly more traditional" to "slightly more contemporary."
Everything we do seeks to glorify the Lord above all else. Come join us in this calling.

Worship Choir Youth and adults at Highland can join our worship choir as their schedules permit. Periodically through the year our worship choir will help lead our Sunday services. Our adult choir presents a spring musical every year. Every Spring our choir presents a worship musical that proclaims God's truth and invites people to praise Him with us.
Children's Musical Our children work every fall to prepare a contemporary Christmas musical that is presented early in December.  This lively, fully costumed and choreographed children's musical is a highlight of the Christmas season for all who attend. In 2007 the musical will be on December 1st at 6pm and again on December 2nd at 4pm.  Admission is free with a cookie reception to follow each performance.
Concerts Highland hosts periodic concerts from well-known Christian musicians. Concerts have featured Ray Boltz, Skillet, BarlowGirl, Wayne Watson, Todd Agnew, Warren Barfield and Rebecca St. James.
Visual Arts Highland recognizes the visual arts as an important way to communicate the truths of God's Word. This growing ministry has already utilized painters, potters, quilters, photographers, PowerPoint designers, and others. We welcome opportunities for artists to use their abilities for the glory of God.
Drama Drama is a powerful yet fun format in which to communicate a message. We use drama sketches in our worship services and in other ministries to present a practical message or to illustrate the morning message from God's Word. We use the gifts of writers, directors, and actors to impact the body of Christ as we seek to glorify and serve the Lord.
Technical Teams As a part of our worship teams, the technical team members play a critical support role in worship services and special events. People serve in areas of sound, video, lighting, and PowerPoint.
Worship Teams Worship teams, comprised of vocalists, instrumentalists, and technical team members, form the hub of our music ministry, and serve as an important part of each service at Highland. We are blessed with many singers and instrumentalists who lead us in worship. Typical Sunday morning services will have 4 vocalists along with instruments including guitar, electric guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards. Everyone uses his or her own talents and abilities to bring glory to God and encouragement to His people.

If you want to get involved in any of these ministries please fill out a Worship and Arts Ministry Service Application and contact Pastor Brian with any questions.
